About Nepal

Nepal is a heavenly abode that lies along the central section of the Greater Himalayas, bordered by Tibet to the north and India to the east, south and west. It comprises an area of 147,181 sq. km. and has a population of about 22 million. Government of Nepal has reduced mountaineering royalty fee in a bid to make it more competitive amongst the neighboring countries, promote mountains lying in remote and less privileged areas, and create environment to transform the seasonal mountaineering business operational round the year and materialize the concept of ‘Nepal for all Seasons’. 1. Provide discount of 50% in Winter and Summer Season and 75% in Autumn Season keeping intact the Royalty Fee in Spring Season.

2. Increase the number of climbing member in an expedition from 12 to 15.

3. Provide 100 % discount on Royalty Fee for mountains located in Mid and Far Western Development Regions for 5 years.

4. Implement Incremental Royalty Break-down System (IRDS), a system under which permit fee increases with the increase in number of climbing members, on all mountains instead of lump sum per expedition having climbing members seven or less than that.

SAGARMATHA NATIONAL PARK

Sagarmatha National Park is located north-east of Kathmandu and covers an area of 1, 148 sq.km. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. The park includes Mt. Sagarmatha (Everest), the land of Sherpa people and some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. It supports the Himalaya’s largest population of the goat-like Himalayan thar, as well as related species, the ghoral and the serow. In the mountain- forests Himalayan red panda, wolves, weasels and musk deer are found.

BARDIA NATIONAL PARK

It lies 585 km. away from Kathmandu, and is situated south-west of Nepal. Lying along the Karnali and Babai rivers, the park is an important preserve for the rare gharial crocodile and the Gangetic dolphin.

KOSHI TAPPU WILDLIFE RESERVE The Reserve covers 175 sq.km. It was established in 1976. Numerous waterholes and marshes make this one of the finest birding areas in Nepal. The grasslands support an important population of the Asiatic wild buffalo.

CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK

It lies 120 km. south-west of Kathmandu with an area of 932 square kilometers. It was established in 1973 and was later declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984. Sub Tropical deciduous riverine forests, wooded hills and grasslands contain one-fourth of the world’s endangered great one-horned rhinos as well as the Royal Bengal tiger, leopards, monkeys, and the splendid gaur bison. More than 440 species of birds are found in this ornithologist’s heaven, including the giant hornbill, the rare Bengal florican and the paradise flycatcher.

It is believed that I am younger than all other Himalayas, mountains and hills of this world. Nowadays, the son is taller than the father, the younger brother taller than the elder, in short the young are taller in height than their elders are. the world. The Himalayas, which are around 2,400 kms in length and 150 - 400 kms in width, are also mentioned in the ancient religious texts and it is believed that Lord Shiva's celestial abode is located somewhere on the Himalayas. Even now a lot of people are curious about me and have made many historical, geographical, and scientific researches about me. Among the 25 summits in the world which are over 8,000 m, 5 fall in Pakistan, 1 falls in China, and 1 in Bhutan. The rest are all situated in Nepal and one-third of all Himalayan ranges also fall within Nepal's boundaries. Among all the summits of Nepal, I am the most favored one. The reason for this is that if someone succeeds to reach me they will be forever remembered. If they find out something new about me they will achieve prominence, and their name will be written in the Hall of Glory .For all this, people even put their lives at risk and try to reach me. And since hundreds of years, mankind has competed amongst themselves to measure my height.

Although the task of measuring mountain summits had been going on for a long time, my first complete assessment along with that of my fellow friends was only done in 1850 from India. Due to their ignorance of my local name, I was named XV during this

process and it was only after later evaluations that people were to know me as the tallest mountain in the world. For a long time afterwards, no one seemed to care about me. Even the few who tried to measure me did not gain anything worthwhile. As soon as people tried to scale me the number of persons who wanted to know more about me grew fantastically. Isn't it amazing? So many people from different places have tried to estimate my height through so many methods but they are yet to be successful and the task of measurement still continues. I have no idea how many times and till when this saga will continue, and I think even the wise and all-knowing Lord Shiva residing on my crest does not know the answer to this.

The British, who infiltrated India in the name of the East India Company and established their rule out there, became increasingly attracted to the Himalayan ranges lying in the northern part of their colony and started to show their mounting interest in us. Maybe because of this, the British announced an official war on Nepal on

History of nepal

The first civilizations in Nepal, which flourished around the 6th century B.C., were confined to the fertile Kathmandu Valley where the present-day capital of the same name is located. It was in this region that Prince Siddhartha Gautama was born c. 563 B.C. Gautama achieved enlightenment as Buddha and spawned Buddhist belief.

Nepali rulers' early patronage of Buddhism largely gave way to Hinduism, reflecting the increased influence of India, around the 12th century. Though the successive dynasties of the Gopalas, the Kiratis, and the Licchavis expanded their rule, it was not until the reign of the Malla kings from 1200–1769 that Nepal assumed the approximate dimensions of the modern state.

The kingdom of Nepal was unified in 1768 by King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who had fled India following the Moghul conquests of the subcontinent. Under Shah and his successors Nepal's borders expanded as far west as Kashmir and as far east as Sikkim (now part of India). A commercial treaty was signed with Britain in 1792 and again in 1816 after more than a year of hostilities with the British East India Company.

Performers from one of the highest countries in the world will travel thousands of miles to compete in a north Wales music festival.

The Everest Nepal Cultural Group will be the first competitors from their country to take part in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod which is due to be held in July.

The group hold the same ideals of the International Eisteddfod in promoting human happiness and wishing the people of the world to live together in peace and happiness

During their visit the members aim to promote the development and conservation of the diverse culture of Nepal.

As well as being home to the highest mountains in the world, the country is known for its ferocious Ghurka warriors and being the birthplace of Buddha.

The Eisteddfod's musical director Eulanwy Davies said the visit promises to be one of the highlights of the competition.

"The visit of our friends from Nepal follows on from the extremely successful recent visit of the monks of the Labrang Monastery in Tibet.

"They were extremely colourful and absolutely fascinating and I fully expect the Everest group to equal, if not better that," she said.

The festival was formed in 1947 to foster international co-operation following the hostilities of World War II.

The event's chief executive Gwyn Williams said the Hindu beliefs of the visitors from Nepal fitted into the ethos of the festival.
